John of God

Brazilian Spiritual Healer

John of God is no longer present at the Casa Healer Center, yet the healings continue.  In the past, John of God stated that at some point, his presence would no longer be needed and spirit would work directly with the people for healing.  That time has come and John of God is no longer present at the Casa Healing Center, yet the healings continue.  Below is a history of his journey as a healer.

João Texeira de Faria, known as John of God (João de Deus in Portuguese) or the Miracle Man, believed to be the world’s most powerful healer of his era, was a full trance medium that allowed spirit (referred to as entity in Brazil) to work through him for healing of others.  He sees his ability as a gift from God and offered his services free of charge.  John of God claims that he doesn’t have any healing powers of his own.  He has stated many times that it is God that heals.

John of God was born into a family that often had little to eat, and was clairvoyant as a child.  His healing ability began in 1958 at the age of 16.  He would walk from village to village performing spontaneous healings.  During this time period he was subjected to much persecution (beaten, jailed or cast out of cities), often instigated by medical or religious “professionals” that felt threatened by his healing abilities.  By helping high profile politicians, for a period of time he was accepted and looked upon as a national treasure of Brazil.

In the 1970's he was inspired to take post in Abadiania upon a property that is a large crystal plateau.  On this site the Casa Healing Center was constructed in 1978.   Once constructed, John of God was performing healing work three days a week at the Casa.  Hundreds to thousands flocked to him weekly from all over the world, being healed of a multitude of diseases like cancer, AIDS, paraplegia, epilepsy, blindness and other serious or supposedly incurable or terminal illnesses.

As part of his healing work, John of God, as a spirit medium, performed physical surgeries on volunteers.  These surgeries were performed without anesthesia, sometimes while the “patient” is sitting or standing, sometimes on stage for the audience to observe.  Those volunteering for physical surgery generally report that there is very little or no pain.  “Patients” were generally aware of what wass going on, able to verbally communicate, yet in a very peaceful trancelike state.  Surgeries were often videotaped and at times, despite the fact that large incisions were made, and by the next day there were no visible scars.

Many medical doctors were invited to observe or assist John of God in these surgeries and they were unable to logically explain how surgeries can be performed with little or no pain, with minimal or no bleeding.

I personally observed a post surgery patient's wound the day after physical surgery, and it appeared healed as if the surgery had been performed weeks ago.

John of God encouraged research into his healing abilities hoping that the information gathered would be useful to the medical field.  His hope is that healthcare will evolve to include spiritual aspects of healing.

On his days away from the Casa, John of God would sometimes travel to other cities performing healing work.  His devotion to volunteering his time for helping others, free of charge, was nothing less than inspiring.

Although John of God is not an educated man, in his limited time for a personal life, he has managed his own business to support himself and his family.
